Some old typographic work

I was going through my computer looking for work to put into my portfolio, it is amazing the stuff you can come across – I found a bunch of my old work from when I first started looking at tutorials on typography and also when I started experimenting with my own designs for type. Lots of the work is from tutorials over at Abduzeedo, which is a great website, albeit a little bit glow effected (not that i’m complaining), I’m sure you can tell my work was heavily inspired by their tutorials.

I was making my portfolio for Uni interviews tonight, a bit rushed with the first one tomorrow morning… but i’ll stick by the saying that “pressure makes diamonds” and hope who ever is interviewing me agrees. Anyway, while I was at it I found, and made, some pretty cool stuff which I thought I may as well share to the world. Enjoy.

Cubist Museum Layout

This was a little thing I put together for the folio for tomorrow – it is pretty much the logo I made in the RMIT Short Course I did for my name, but adapted for an actual design (I made a business card to go with it, but it appears to be corrupt). I attempted to find a suitable application for such a technical logo, and what better use for a cubic logo than to advertise a ‘cubist museum’. I was also interested in making the logo into a wooden block type thing, which i may one day – but not yet.

Old Lions Raw

I was thinking about it before, that I actually haven’t made a post about my work I did in the Lions Raw Student Publication at school throughout year 12, and to be perfectly honest I am not 100% sure about whether or not I can put these up on the internet (Mr Brenker tell me if you want them taken down). Anyway – the front covers can be seen here – on my RMIT Pre-seleciton Kit post – but these are some trials I made during the 2009 Christmas holidays before year 12. The front covers are made on Photoshop, but in order to make the magazine I had to learn Adobe InDesign, which was a lot of fun, and turned out to be extremely productive and intuitive once I got the hang of it.

Again, look out for more post (hopefully with some layout) or I can show you in person now that it is part of my folio :)

Just a little disclaimer – all imagery isn’t mine, it was for test purposes and is part of the reason these covers never would have gone into production – this was an NFP magazine (clearly) and all publications were for educational purposes – if the owners of the images want me to take them down, let me know.

The image above was my fist proper attempt at a photo manipulation, putting together all the elements in a collage, it isn’t perfect, but I was very proud of it.

The image below is a poster I made that was put up around the school in order to encourage people to write and give us articles to publish in the mag. It was done after i followed a tutorial from Abduzeedo on Digital Arts website, which I think was called Mile High Text Effect (If you can’t find it i’ll gladly have a look for you).

Fashion Wars – Movie Poster

Two movie posters advertising a fictional film. The intent was to demonstrate the aggression of the judge and the guilty shame of the fashion designer. This was largely an experiment with photography as the two figures were green screened and then cut out onto the posters.

Hey folks, just thought i’d bring ya a new post, nothing to do with anything really, was just reading my RSS’s and saw some cool weblayouts and thought i’d give it a shot at designing one. They are non-functioning, clearly, as i only have the most basic knowledge of dreamweaver, and couldn’t design anything like this even if my life depended on it. Pretty much i was thinking of making a photography blog to view photos easily without even leaving the home page, but would rather if it was done using HTML5 or something, since i detest flash websites immensely. With that in mind, i gave it menus which can easily be hidden to just reveal the whole picture, and a menu that comes up from the bottom to get information on the picture, as well as easily navigate to other pictures in the set. I’ll try bring you an After Effects animation of this in a little while to demonstrate how it could work. Plus… I found a photo i liked in my archives so thought i’d chuck that into use somewhere to, with a bit of sneaky editing clearly!
